Custom Prefab Home Packages
|
Virtually all of our clients are interested in being as green as possible: they're
investing their time and money to build a cabin that allows them to relax and enjoy
the environment with minimum carbon footprint. And whether they realize it or not, our prefabrication process
is one of the greenest forms of construction possible!
You may have heard of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)
Building Rating System. It lays out a set of guidelines and measurements
to quantify the "greenness" of a project. The prefabrication process is
highlighted as being one of the easiest means of generating green points, and is
perhaps the only option that doesn't require significantly increased costs.

1. Planning
All of our homes are designed using CAD software. This allows us to create accurate
material cut lists and assembly drawings, which helps us to minimize material waste.
|
2. Centralized location
By prefabricating at a central location we are able to draw on a labour pool that
resides close to our facility. This reduces the total amount of transportation associated
with a specific project. As well, the majority of the waste is captured at the plant
rather than the job site.
|
3. Local materials
We benefit from being in close proximity to the sources of our lumber which reduces
the transportation impact of marshalling the bulk materials. As well, our knowledge
of the local lumber market allows us to get the best products available at the best
prices..
|
4. Reduced Site Waste & Disposal
Prefabrication is the easiest way to minimize site waste and disposal. The amount
of on-site cutting and framing is dramatically reduced, saving time and labour as
well as the environment.
|
5. Reduced Material Transportation
We order our materials in bulk and pull material from our inventory as needed. Once
prefabricated, we can generally ship your entire package on one or two trucks. Compare
that to built-on-site projects where it is not uncommon to have numerous small material
deliverys from various suppliers sent directly to the site.
|
6. Speedier Construction
Panels and pre-cuts are clearly shown on our production drawings. The sections and
components go together like “ABC", speeding up the assembly, and reducing
your on-site labour requirements.
|
7. It adds up to LEED Points!
LEED Certifications are a formal procedure that can cost thousands of dollars. Fortunately,
the LEED guidelines give you a measuring stick that let you do a ballpark assessment
of just how environmentally friendly your house is. It's up to you to decide how
far up the scale you want to go..
|
8. and for even more LEED Points...
Switching from conventional lumber to engineered wood products (I-Joists, LVL, Parallam,
etc.) for joists and rafters can make your cabin even greener, although it can be
somewhat more expensive.
|
+ Green Partners...
Over the years we have developed relationships with a variety of local companys
that specialize in making your house even greener: from solar to septic systems
to geothermal, we can point you to these eco-friendly options.
|
+ Fire Safety...
Here in BC, global warming and the pine beetle infestation have led to increased
concerns about wild fires. Our standard package includes metal roofs and fiber-cement
siding which provide you with increased protection from fire. Speak to your insurance
agent: see the difference!
